What the scheme is

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India's residential rooftop solar programme. Eligible households can receive CFA for a grid-connected rooftop plant, typically up to 3 kW of CFA, along with net metering as per DISCOM rules.

A commonly cited structure: about Rs 30,000/kW for the first 2 kW and about Rs 18,000/kW for additional capacity up to 3 kW (around Rs 78,000 CFA for a 3 kW plant). Special-category states may differ. This is not a guarantee of the amount you will receive.

Eligibility (typical)

  • Indian residential consumer with a valid DISCOM connection
  • Suitable shadow-free roof or approved mounting area
  • Application on the national portal with correct consumer details
  • Plant installed by an approved vendor as required by the portal

Application process

  1. Register on the PM Surya Ghar national portal
  2. Apply with consumer number and roof details
  3. Choose an approved vendor / installer
  4. Installation, inspection and DISCOM net metering
  5. CFA released as per portal / DBT process

Documents usually needed

  • Latest electricity bill
  • Aadhaar of the consumer
  • Bank details for CFA credit
  • Identity / address proof if asked by DISCOM
  • Roof photographs and signed application forms

Bank loan & other support

Many banks and NBFCs offer loans for rooftop solar. We can share typical documentation lists. Loan approval is the bank's decision. Commercial and industrial plants follow different CFA / accelerated depreciation / state policies - we advise case by case.
